The 2019 Show’s Beneficiaries
Profits from the 2019 Show will be split between The Winchester Talking Newspaper and Winchester Go LD
The Winchester Talking Newspaper (WTN) - Audio recordings for the visually impaired
WTN provides weekly recordings of extracts from the Hampshire Chronicle and a monthly magazine to over 100 blind and visually impaired people in the Winchester area. Users of the service receive an easy to use player and each week a programme on a memory stick. Then it’s a case of plug it in and listen!
WTN needs to invest in replacing its copying machines and memory sticks which are wearing out. Proceeds from our Show will help to do this and keep the service, operated by 90 local volunteers, in good shape.
Winchester Go LD - supporting adults with learning disabilities and their families
This charity has over 100 members living in and around Winchester. It is fully inclusive and welcomes new and regular members to all its activities and there is no fee to join.
They are passionate about promoting choice for its members and in assisting them to discover and reach their potential. To achieve this they provide quality information, signposting, Personal Centred Planning, advocacy, listening, support, social activities and sport.
Go LD promotes independence. It runs workshops to build confidence and communication skills, educates and provides daily living skills, gives computer training and enables work readiness. It helps its members to sue local services., to integrate within the local community and supports them into employment and voluntary work positions.
Go LD needs help with funding to cover studio hire, trainers and travel costs for operating a low level circuits programme to aid the general fitness and well being of its members.
